DONATE NOW!

Dear Friends,

2011 has been a banner year for The Ghost Road Company!

We are reaching out to you because we are really proud of what Ghost Road Company has accomplished in 2011. We did a residency in Poland, performed and taught workshops at the Ko Festival in Amherst, MA, participated in a nation-wide reading of Sinclair Lewis’ It Can’t Happen Here, presented a reading of renowned Polish playwright Malgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk’s Pantofelnik’s Suitcase AND mounted the LA premiere of our newest work Stranger Things. That’s one hell of a year!

We want to make 2012 even bigger! We’re starting back to work on our newest devised piece tentatively titled The Bargain and the Butterfly. We’re pursuing taking a play to Europe in the late summer/early fall. We’re exploring further collaboration with Studium Teatralne in Poland. And we're looking to teach more workshops on our creative process across the nation. But to do all this – we need your help. Please consider wrapping up your 2011 charitable donations with a gift to the Ghost Road Company. You can send a check to us at the address below or donate to us online. Everything you donate is tax deductible and more importantly . . . you’ll be helping one of LA’s most innovative and exciting theatre companies. Come on – help fund the arts. It’s the COOL thing to do!!

AND to help you see your dollars at work, we are constantly posting new info about the company (including rehearsal footage, photos, etc) on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. Be a part of the Ghost Road process – donate today!

Check out our amazing 2011:

- Our latest piece, Stranger Things, conceived and directed by Ronnie Clark with music by David O, kicked off 2011 with a workshop showing at the NET Microfest. Upon completion in June we were invited to debut the play at The Ko Festival in Amherst, MA. After an outstanding response back east we were happy to bring the play home to our LA audiences at the Atwater Village Theatre in August/September. The LA Times said the play was “Strindberg meets Rod Serling... the show’s somber, claustrophobic tone is leavened by dry wit, and just when the story seems predictable, it twists into something genuinely chilling.”

- While in Amherst, Artistic Director Katharine Noon, with assistance from Christel Joy Johnson and Brian Weir, led a workshop on the ensemble devising process. 17 diverse students from around the country aged 18-73 embarked on a week-long workshop culminating in a 20 min performance piece inspired by the Icarus legend.

- Thanks to a generous grant from the Adam Mikiewicz Foundation and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, 5 members of the ensemble traveled to Warsaw, Poland for two weeks to do an artistic exchange with Studium Teatralne. Members of Ghost Road shared our artistic process with the Studium team and they in turn shared their process. The two weeks culminated in a joint performance piece incorporating both company’s techniques. You can see video from the residency here.

- While in residence in Poland, we were happy to connect with well know Polish playwright Malgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk. With another grant from the Adam Mikiewicz Foundation, we were honored to present a staged reading of Marlgorzarta’s play Pantofelnik’s Suitcase in LA in November, and hope to continue to work with her in 2012.

- We also had the honor to participate in the national reading of Sinclair Lewis’ play It Can’t Happen Here. Inspired by the Federal Theater Project, over 40 theater companies across the nation mounted readings of Lewis’ play on October 24th , 75 years after the original Federal Theatre Project’s performances. Ghost Road’s reading received a very nice mention in The Nation magazine.
