The Arcata Playhouse and Four on the Floor Theatre will host the Los Angeles theater The Ghost Road Company in their new adaptation of the Greek tragedy, Elektra. The production is an ensemble devised adaptation of The Libation Bearers which, revolves around the dynamics of family and power and how memory can be used as both a way to comfort and to control. Set against the backdrop of the home front after a war abroad, the piece combines songs, text and imagery to explore both the public and private lives of a family on the verge of collapse. Elektra is Adapted and Directed by Katharine Noon with Music Composed by Caleb Terray. Elektra is part of Home Siege Home, Ghost Road's adaptation of The Oresteia which the company has been working on for over a decade and which will presented in its entirety in Spring 2009 at [Inside] the Ford in Los Angeles. The Arcata performances are supported in part by the California Ensemble Touring Initiative a program of the Network of Ensemble Theaters and foolsFURY Theater Company, funded by the Irvine Foundation. Ghost Road Company also presented a preview performance of Elektra, a new ensemble-devised adaptation of the Greek tragedy on Tuesday August 12th. This was a special preview of the piece before Ghost Road took Elektra to the The NACL Catskill Festival of New Theatre in New York (http://www.nacl.org/festival_nine.htm) on August 22nd.
