A
murdered Queen, an anguished (and guilty) son, an over-protective sister
and three ancient Aunties from hell present a few problems for Athena
and Apollo as they attempt to usher in the new order. Set in the crumbling
House of Atreus, memory and history come together bringing Orestes face
to face with the consequences of murdering his mother, Clytemnestra,
while those around him seek to use his actions to further their own
ambitions. Orestes Remembered asks the question; are we becoming a more
just society or a more savage one?
The previous installments in this series were Elektra-La-La (1995), directed by Noon and co-written by Noon and Brian Howrey, and Clyt at Home (2001), directed by Noon and co-written by Noon and Chris Dewan. All three pieces have been ensemble-devised. |

The
initial development of Orestes Remembered: The Fury Project was done
in residency at Loyola Marymount University using a combination of Ghost
Road Company members and students from the Theatre department. For Ghost
Road, being invited to develop new work in residency at a university
gives the company a way to introduce students into the hands-on process
of creating and performing ensemble-devised theatre alongside experienced
artists. Ghost Road sees this as a great opportunity to encourage and
teach the next generation of theatre artists as well as invigorating
their own work by engaging students and professionals with differing
perspectives, points of view, and life experiences.
